(In the information below, Barbara Brown describes a summer camp for military kids and some of the public issues deliberation and studies that will be included in the camp program.)

Teen Voices Camp is a Speak Out for Military Kids event for youth ages 13-17.  It includes all the activities expected at a residential summer camps such as swimming and high and low ropes, but also includes deliberative dialogue, six pillars of character, and humanitarian and human rights law experiences.  Youth will participate in two National Issues Forums  (NIF) - Democracy's Challenge: Reclaiming the Public's Role, and Americans' Role in the World: Building a More Secure Future as part of NIF in the Classroom: A High School Program on Deliberative Democracy curriculum. 

The camp will also inlcude activities focusing on the six pillars of character, components of Character Counts.  Additionally, on August 12th, the 60th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, Speak Out for Military Kids youths will spend the day celebrating and learning about the creation of the Red Cross and International Humanitarian Law.  International Human Rights Law; articles 12 and 13 of the Children's Rights Conventions, on youth participation will also be included.
